What does teeth whitening involve?

You can choose between in-chair teeth whitening, at-home teeth whitening, or a combination of both.

In-Chair Teeth Whitening

In-chair teeth whitening usually requires one visit and taking just over one hour to complete. Your dentist will first clean your teeth (hygiene) and then prepare your teeth for whitening treatment.

Your dentist will first apply a special whitening gel to your teeth, which works with the laser whitener to gently penetrate the surface layer of your teeth, removing stains and discolouration.

Once a gum shield in place, your dentist will direct the whitening radical light inside your mouth. This is generally done in three twenty minute sessions, with cleaning, checking and gel re-application of the whitening gel.

At-Home Whitening

This type of teeth whitening usually requires two visits. At the first appointment, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth to fabricate custom, clear plastic, trays.

At your second appointment, you will be given your custom tray and a special whitening gel. The trays are worn with special whitening gel either once a day for 30 minutes or overnight for a couple of weeks depending on the degree of staining and desired level of whitening.

Your dentist will give you care instructions for your home whitening kit. The results of teeth whitening typically last around three years and good oral hygiene, eating habits, and regular dental visits will assist to maintain a beautiful, healthy, white smile.
